A Personal Message From Katie...

Dear MacPeople,

I recently accepted a position with a law firm in Jacksonville and will be leaving Gainesville the last week of July. The good news is that this is exactly the type of job I was looking for and I think I will be very happy with my position in the firm. The bad news, is the job is in Jacksonville. Therefore, my last regular MacPeople meeting will be our next meeting on July 14th.  I will make every effort to remain involved in the email list and will try to make a few meetings each year but I will no longer be able to participate regularly in our monthly meetings.

MacPeople has gone through changes in leadership in the past and in each instance there have always been people within the group who step up to fill the gap. It is my sincere hope that this is the case this time as well. The principle behind the Mac Users Groups has always been to create a community of Mac Users who teach and learn from one another.  The group only works if the members come together and contribute in some way betterment of the group experience.  The people who serve as your MacPeople officers are volunteers, each with their own very busy lives, and cannot shoulder this burden alone.

I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage you all to consider taking a more active role in the group. If even just a few people a month volunteer to help in some way the overall impact to our group would be tremendous as it would not only relieve some of the burdens on our officers, but also enrich the experience for the MUG by opening it up to new interests and ideas.

I want to stress that you don't have to be a Mac Guru to help, although I know there are several of you out there who are, and we would welcome your assistance. Something a simple as taking 10 minutes to show the group a website or program you find particularly helpful  in your day-to-day operations or showing something you created on your mac and telling us how you did it would make a wonderful presentation. Theresa's assistance in providing the monthly snacks for our meeting has been incredibly helpful and John has taken on a tremendous responsibility by taking his love of video and turning it into the iMovie SIG.

If you have ever considered becoming a more active participant in MacPeople, or you've thought about giving a presentation on a particular topic of interest, now would be an excellent time for you to step forward. Feel free to contact me or any of our officers and we'll be happy to assist you in any way we can.

Being a member of MacPeople has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences that I have had the privilage of participaing in these last few years.  I am very sad to have to leave you, but I am also very excited about the opportunities in front of me. I hope you will take this letter to heart, and I look forward to seeing you all next month.
